This year’s tournament was another great success – over
$7,600 was raised at the event thanks to both your generosity and participation!
We couldn’t have asked for better weather (OK maybe a tiny bit warmer!) and the
turnout was great. Congratulations to the winning team that came in at -9 par: Kevin Greenlaw,
Mark Miles, Carl Miles and Jeff Boyle.
A donation in Chris’s name has been made to the Dana-Farber
Cancer Institute in the amount of $8,000 to specifically target advanced melanoma
research, for which we are hopefully making real strides in helping to find a
cure for this horrible disease. We also are continuing to fund the Chris Rowan
Memorial Scholarship for a deserving senior at WHRHS. This year’s recipient was
Jessica Veneto, who was awarded a $500 scholarship for her attendance at the
College of Saint Rose to study music education. Congratulations Jessica!
Each year applications are received from eager students about to embark on their continued education, and we are honored to be able to review all submissions and select a recipient whom we feel has similar aspirations or traits that Chris had. The scholarship and donations to Dana-Farber vary year to year based on the cost of the tournament and the resulting amount of monies generated from the event.
THANK YOU so much for participating and donating to this very worthy cause in memory of Chris. We’d also like to thank The Jimmy Fund for their help with the event and providing hats to all the players. Special thanks as well to our photographer, Maureen Kelly. And last but not least, thanks to all the volunteers and donors and sponsors who support this event, year after year – none of this would be possible without you! We hope you had a good time and will participate again next year!
