Farewell...

After 7 amazing years a tough decision has been made to end the golf tournament. Words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation for all of you that supported Chris’s tournament over the years. THANK YOU SO MUCH! His tournament has raised over $60,000 which has been put to very good use in the continuing fight against melanoma and also assisted seven college bound WHRHS graduates with a memorial scholarship in Chris’s name. The remaining money in the account is being donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ($5,326.39) and also funding an additional scholarship ($750) for a new WHRHS 2019 graduate.

After the loss of someone loved so much by so many, it’s hard to imagine a time when some semblance of normalcy will ever return. And although that time may never fully arrive, knowing that Chris touched so many lives and that his legacy continues to live on in such a powerful way provides solace. It’s said that God has a plan and that everything happens for a reason, which can be impossible to understand at times, especially in Chris’s situation. Perhaps his passing on was a painful lesson to teach others the importance of cherishing the ones you love, and to not let a day go by without expressing that love to all those around you. Or maybe it was a ruthless reminder to not get caught up in the day to day nonsense, take a step back to look at the big picture and re-evaluate what really matters in life. One sure takeaway is to live this life to the fullest and enjoy every moment of the journey because you never know when this ride will end. We might never know the true reason his life was cut so short until we cross over ourselves, but in the meantime we continue to remember Chris and all the joy he brought into our lives and will never stop missing him.

Much Love and God Bless You All,

Brian, Steve and Peggy

The results are in!

The 7th annual golf tournament in Chris’s memory was once again a success thanks to all of our loyal participants and donors! This year’s event raised over $10,300!! We did receive several donations to the fund in memory of Thomas F. Rowan who sadly passed away in June of this year. Tom participated in every golf tournament, right up until last year and lived a wonderful life. RIP Pop, we love you!

Congratulations to this year’s winners David Marsocci, Derek Levangie, Rich Manning and Eric Hackenson who set a low round record for the tournament at -15 par!!!

We’re happy to announce that another $10,000 donation has been made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute toward melanoma research under the direction of Chris’s oncologist as always. We are also still continuing to fund the WHRSD Scholarship in Chris’s name and most recently awarded a $750 Scholarship to Andrew Boisjolie, W-H class of 2018. Congratulations Andrew, and best of luck in your first year of college!

So once again, on behalf of the entire Rowan Family, thank you ever so much for continuing to support this event which not only provides cancer researchers with additional resources they need in hopes of putting an end to this devastating disease, but also helps to keep Chris’s memory alive, particularly on the day of the tournament each year when we all remember why we’re really there.

The Results Are In!

I’d like to start off by saying WOW! Each year Chris’s tournament seems to gain more and more momentum, and last month’s event was no exception – over $13,900 was generously donated through the kindheartedness of family and friends and friends of friends. We don’t know how we can ever thank everyone enough, but your collective generosity and commitment to fighting melanoma in Chris’s memory means everything. We’ve come a long way and have officially made it over the $50,000 mark for the total amount raised since the start of the tournament….WOW!!!

Congratulations to the winning team (and last year’s Champions) – Kevin Greenlaw, Mark Miles, Carl Miles and Jeff Boyle who came in at an impressive -9 par!

We’d also like to congratulate David Perry as the recipient of this year’s WHRHS scholarship in the amount of $500!

A donation will be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from this year’s proceeds in the amount of $10,000 toward advanced melanoma research in Chris’s name -- THANK YOU for making this possible! Although great strides have been made in treatments since Chris was first diagnosed, much still needs to be done in the fight against this devastating disease and we can all take pride in knowing that we’re playing a helping role.

In addition to the golfers, of which so many are repeat players, we have a lot of other behind the scenes volunteers, personal donors and businesses who are major contributors to the success of Chris’s tournament every year and we are forever grateful for their time, talent, and generosity. A special shout out to Matt Dolan who does all our graphic work, and our photographer, Maureen Kelly, for the great pics. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and will be back again next year to play or win some raffles. Please spread the word about Chris’s tournament to continue our fight against melanoma and keep Chris’s memory alive.

Peace and love,
